Help GSEU Pass Our Paybill!
Call your elected officials to help pass GSEU's paybill before the legislative session ends!

Dear GSEU members and allies,

GSEU is almost finished negotiating our 2014-2016 contract. Our negotiations included a soft promise by the state to grant a paybill which would appropriate the money for the raises and funds in our new contract.

GSEU is very optimistic, considering the power of our current governor to pass bills, that this bill, which explicitly states, "introduced at the request of Governor Cuomo" in the text, will pass before the end of legislative session, which is currently scheduled to conclude on June 19.

HOWEVER: We need you to call your local legislative officials whose support will further aid the passing of the paybill.

You can view the full text of the paybill on the NY State Senate's website here: http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S7857-2013

Those of you who were around during GSEU's last round of contract negotiations might remember how difficult it was for us to get a paybill passed. We are fortunate that our changes for getting this current paybill through seem great. With some encouragement for our elected officials, we may be able to see this paybill passed soon!

You can help GSEU pass our paybill by taking a few moments to call an elected official in the Stony Brook area and read them the script that we've created. Both of the representatives in Stony Brook's district are on the Senate's Higher Education Committee and Education Committee.

We encourage you to call GSEU's Stony Brook organizer at (646) 419-3383, email your union representatives (contact information listed at the end of this email), or message us by simply replying to this email, to ask questions or provide your opinion about the paybill and the new contract. More information about our contract is forthcoming, and we will be holding an open meeting on campus soon!

Place a call to either of Stony Brook's elected officials and urge them to support GSEU's paybill with the call script below:
Jon Flanagan, Senator, Stony Brook, 518-455-2071
Steve Englebright, Assemblyman, Stony Brook, 518-455-4804

CALL SCRIPT for GSEU MEMBERS (Current Teaching and Graduate Assistants):
"Hello, I am calling to ask (insert elected official name here) for support. I am a member of the Graduate Student Employees Union/CWA Local 1104 at SUNY Stony Brook and we recently reached a tentative agreement with New York State, but there's still work to be done to make sure members like me get the resources necessary to do the best job possible on SUNY campuses across the state, specifically raises and statewide funds that help us be better students and staff. Will (insert elected official name here) support our paybill S7857/A10116 and help graduate and teaching assistants across the state to ensure we receive the resources we've worked hard to earn in a timely manner?"

CALL SCRIPT for ALLIES of the GSEU:
"Hello, I am calling to let (insert elected official name here) know that I am a(n) (labor) ally of the Graduate Student Employees Union/CWA Local 1104, a union that recently reached a tentative agreement with New York State. There's still work to be done to make sure their members get the resources necessary to do the best job possible on campuses across the state. Will (insert elected official name here) support the paybill S7857/A10116 and help graduate and teaching assistants across the state receive the resources they've worked hard to earn, including their raises and funds that help support their professional development?"
