As you may know, the contract between the GSEU and State of New York expired on July 1, 2016. The union and the state are yet to settle for a new contract. However, the state has agreed to extend the availability of the employer contribution for Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAA) for the 2017 plan year at the same amount as in the expired contract.
In other words, the state will continue to provide a contribution of $600 for each eligible DCAA enrollee to defray the cost of child and elder care once you enroll in the program. TAs and GAs who are already enrolled for the 2016 plan year must re-enroll for 2017 to continue to avail the benefits.
The deadline to enroll for the 2017 plan year is Monday, November 7, 2016. You can enroll online as well as find other details at flexspend.ny.gov. You can also apply by calling: 1-800-358-7202, option 1.
The name of our bargaining unit is Graduate Student Negotiating Unit (GSNU) and the code is 28.
