Political Action

Political Action

CWA Local 1104 GSEU understands the importance of being politically active. Our Union’s involvement in the legislative process through our member-driven Political Action Committees is vital if we intend to succeed in our constant battle to encourage Albany lawmakers to offer good wages, benefits, working conditions and incentives to our members. SUNY works because we do, and we deserve everything we've earned. For key decision makers and State lawmakers to truly recognize and understand this, we must be active in the community. Union members work together to participate in labor walks, marches, rallies, and lobby days. When we do this, we create strong relationships that are essential in lobbying for important legislation.

Get involved!

This type of involvement not only helps Local 1104's membership but all other unions and working people. When seeking the support of key decision makers, we must first show that we are familiar with the issues in order for our union to be taken seriously. Once that is established, the most important task of the union is to be persistent or no official will act on our behalf. That’s where the union's political action efforts come into play. Elected officials often witness Local 1104's members mobilizing in great numbers in support of legislation and progress in the workplace. The political community then instantly recognizes how valuable we are in the political process. When we lobby for laws to protect working people, elected officials are often reminded by their staff of the impact that was demonstrated through our efforts and through our political action. They know that when we care about an issue or a cause, we commit our full support wherever and whenever necessary.
